SAS, Prefabricated Products of Concrete

Company

The SAS company heritage, which dates back to the year 1900, has always been a source of great pride for us. We are proud to continue in that heritage as we take up the challenges to further advance the company and its image both of which have been forged by the efforts and dedication of hundreds of collaborators for over nine decades.

Without forgetting the past, here at SAS the present and future are our primary concern. Our objectives are clear: QUALITY AND SERVICE, as always.

In recent years, we have been able to consolidate our product range and include new models. We have also succeeded in expanding and improving an extensive commercial network, and opening up the export market for the company. None of this would have been possible without the ideal combination of experience and technical progress, enthusiasm and efficiency, quality and production capacity.

Meticulously selected materials and intelligent design combine to produce a sound product which is both elegant and versatile.

History

Company founded in May 1900 in the city of Vilanova i la Geltrú (45 km south of Barcelona) by Mr. Joan Sas i Gregori, great-grandfather of the current manager.

The company was initially set up as an “artificial stone” workshop. In 1920 it was converted into a “hydraulic tile” factory. In 1945 the company moved to Hospitalet de Llobregat, to be closer to its main market: Barcelona city.

Around the mid-1950s the company stopped manufacturing hydraulic tiles and began gradually to specialise in the products for which it is known today: “decorative and ornamental products”.

The Montblanc factory (Conca de Barberà) came into operation in 1958, and since then the position of SAS has become a benchmark for the prefabricated concrete industry.

In the mid-1960s the company began to export its products to France, setting up a subsidiary in the town of Igny, near Paris.
The subsidiary was sold off to a major French group in 1970.

SAS resumed its export activities in 1985 under the leadership of the current manager, Joaquim Sas i Sanahuja. Exports allowed the company to expand its markets, increasing the profits of the company.

Following the growth of its product range, personnel and customers, SAS decided in October 2000 to purchase a plot of 205.000 m2 to build a second factory, in the town of Pira. Production at this new plant began in March 2004. We currently have two factories in Conca de Barberà (Tarragona): The Montblanc factory, with a floor area of almost 10.000 m2 and the Pira factory, with a floor area of 6.000 m2.

We have subsidiaries in France since September 1999, in Germany since December 1999 and in Chile since April 2009.

The current manager of the company, Joaquim Sas i Sanahuja, is also chairman of the Catalan Association of Manufacturers of  Prefabricated Cement Products and By-products, deputy chairman of Fedcam and member of the CONSTRUMAT trade show in Barcelona.

SAS received the award for “BEST CORPORATE INITIATIVES OF 1998" from El Periódico de Catalunya.

In December 2000 we received the “FRANCESC MACIÀ PLAQUE” awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Regional Government of Catalonia) to mark the 100th anniversary of our company.

In the year 2000 we celebrated the centenary of the company.

The Montblanc factory celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008.

As of 2010 we have been in the French market for 25 years.
