PREVENTION AND MEASURES TO BE TAKEN IN THE LOADING, UNLOADING AND
STORAGE OF

Unloading elements.
Forklifts.
- Check the loading capacity, which should
never be less than 2,000 kg on the machine characteristics plate.
- Fork length: Minimum 1100 mm.
- Minimum separation between forks:
500 mm.
- The floor on which the forklifts operate
must be smooth and stable, with no substances that may cause sliding,
and be free of holes and objects or obstacles.
- Load-bearing forklifts should never
exceed the speed of 10 km./h, and the load must not be higher
than 20 cm, and the mast should always be tilted as far back as
possible.
Crane trucks.
- Check the equipment load chart to make sure
that the maximum weights and distances are not exceeded.
- The operator should be able to see
the load at all times from the control post, and if this were
not possible the operation will be performed with the help of
one or two duly identified sign operators with knowledge of sign
language.
Tower cranes.
- On no account should the distances indicated
in the equipment load charts be exceeded.
- The operator should be able to see
the load at all times from the control post, and if this were
not possible the operation will be performed with the help of
one or two duly identified sign operators with knowledge of sign
language.
Loading and unloading.
NEVER!:
- Load or unload a pallet with chains or slings.
- Try to load or unload broken or damaged
pallets.
- Handle a pallet with weak or loose shrink-wrapped
film or straps.
- Drag pallets against each other. On no account
try to move palletised loads by striking or pulling on them.
- Loading and unloading operations must be
suspended in winds over 60 km/h.
- There should be no personnel under the loading/unloading
area.
- The pallets should never be tilted. They
should always be kept levelled.
Storage and stowage.
- The floor or ground on which loading, unloading
and stowage is conducted must be in perfect conditions and be
able to support a load of at least 2,500 Kg./m2.
- Do not stack pallets more than 3 levels
high. Some products cannot be elevated, and this is stated on
the packing. Special pallets should never be stacked.
Characteristics of the people in charge of loading,
unloading, storage and stowage.
- All loading, unloading, storage and stowage
wok should be performed by skilled personnel with the knowledge
and information needed to do these jobs. If in doubt contact the
SAS technical department for advice.
